We believe that the power should rest with every one of us, to make our community better and to shape it to fit us, not the other way around.
We are here. Therefore, we belong.
Our core mission is to provide representation, activism, and a voice for all residents of New Castle, especially those who have been marginalized, dismissed and disenfranchised.
What is Belonging:New Castle?
Belonging is an independent grassroots organization focused on issues related to our local community of New Castle, NY. Our work is driven by our shared values, not by party lines or political debts.
Our members come from every walk of life, and every racial, religious and socioeconomic background. We have formed a coalition around our shared set of beliefs in fairness, compassion and courage.
We coalesce around a range of issues that our members care about in our community, with a specific focus on the right of everyone to be included, respected and safe.
We aim to shift the needle in this town towards our shared set of values in order to promote social justice and help preserve democracy.
We are not a political party. Our members are diverse, and may come from any political background. We are a coalition. A group of varied, diverse individuals who share a common set of goals for our town and our world. We are all simply neighbors working together to make a difference in the local causes that matter most to us. To that end, our members work together to:
Demand and defend inclusion for all community members
Promote peaceful, respectful dialogue
Educate & unify the community at large
Preserve and strengthen our democracy
What are our goals?
Why do we exist?
Many people we talk to want to invest energy in improving our town, but have been unable to find a trusted channel to direct that energy toward. It’s easy to end up feeling frustrated, silenced, or worse. We are left with two choices: give up on local “politics” entirely, or find a new way to engage.
Belonging believes a new movement is needed to give our community members appealing, open, inspiring ways to engage and turn their values into relevant action that makes a difference.
We all want to have a say in decisions that determine the type of society that we live in. But there’s only so much we can each accomplish alone. By connecting and collaborating with each other, we can create a powerful voice for change and Belonging, here in New Castle.
